about the artist

“What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Mary Oliver

Katherine Pope received her Bachelors Degree in Fine Art from Kansas City Art Institute. After working many years in textile design/production that took her to Peru, Bolivia, and Paris several times a year, Katherine rediscovered her love of oil painting. She is particularly interested in the excitement of painting color and light. Her hope is her paintings convey a sense of feeling, time, and place.

Beginning her art studies at Memphis College of Art, Katherine received the Mildred Powell Boyles Scholarship for international travel. Spending 6 weeks in Italy and Sicily gave her an opportunity to experience the Italian Renaissance art and architecture she loves. Always interested in artistic growth, she continues to study painting with several well known artists, with travels to Italy, England, around the US, and to Bordeaux in 2025. Katherine lives in Franklin, Tennessee, where she paints from her studio and en plein air. She is extremely grateful for the appreciation and encouragement of art enthusiasts and collectors.
